Sid Meier’s Pirates! Sid Meier’s Pirates!

Sid Meier’s Pirates! (PC and Xbox)

Firaxis Games

In Sid Meier's Pirates! players face countless enemies, woo fair maidens and raise the Jolly Roger on the high seas in pursuit of riches.

Firaxis licensed the Gamebryo engine to create a gorgeous world full of unique places to visit and characters to meet. Because Pirates! has several different styles of game play – ship battles, sword fights, and dance contests, to name just a few – Gamebryo’s flexibility was essential. Gamebryo’s cross platform API enabled Firaxis to easily deliver Pirates for both the PC and the Xbox.

Firaxis has also selected Gamebryo for the remake of Sid Meier’s classic Civilization IV.

Customer Quotes

“By using a 3D engine like Gamebryo we can create software that’ll go into just about any platform. That has really saved us a lot of time and headaches, and has given us the opportunity to become players in the console market.”
Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development

“We’re extremely happy with what NDL has given us and how they have worked with us. Developers who use Gamebryo are just going to flip.”
David Evans, Director of Technology

“Most of our code for the Xbox and the PC versions are about the same, except for what we choose to make different. It’s made the development of Pirates! for the Xbox and the PC a very easy process. Plus, NDL is very friendly, very fast, very responsive.”
